Socio-Economic Development

The Mi’kmaq Confederacy of PEI’s Socio-Economic Development Program uses a holistic approach to economic development by concentrating on the fundamentals of business, as well as the human resources that drive successful economies. The MCPEI Socio-Economic Development Program works both sides of the economic coin, by utilizing proven business practices and techniques to build the economy, drive innovation and seize upon business opportunities. The program seeks to build capacity, increase professional qualifications and re-ignite the Aboriginal business spirit.

As business cannot advance unless entrepreneurs and corporate managers have the skills and abilities to properly manage their operations, provide a quality service, and access a labour market that possesses the proper skills and qualifications. As one of two unique programs offered under the MCPEI umbrella, the MCPEI Employment Service is designed to provide high quality employment based programs and services to all Aboriginal people living on PEI. Funded under Service Canada’s Aboriginal Human Resource Development Strategy, the MCPEI offers employment assistance in the form of job planning, job search, resume writing, wage subsidies, internship programs, and other initiatives aimed at advancing the employment opportunities of Aboriginal people regardless of where they live in the province.

The MCPEI strives to provide high quality programs and services designed to advance the economic fortunes of the communities by building upon the greatest Aboriginal resource, the people.
