The Home Farm

Thank you for taking the time to visit the Home Farm Conceptual Drawing Page and for your interest in the Home Farm property.

PEI Mi’kmaq Governments in Lennox Island and Abegweit have taken a leadership role by encouraging interested stakeholders and citizens to work together to save and enhance the Home Farm property in Charlottetown, PEI.

In its current state, this property is falling into disrepair and is not accessible to the general public. The status quo isn’t something anybody should be proud of. PEI Mi’kmaq Governments support efforts to better utilize the property, to make it greener, to make is more accessible to Islanders, tourists and their families. We believe we can do better and we have been leading the charge to work with all interested groups and individuals to ensure the property is protected and cherished for years to come.
Levels of government, interested groups and individuals are united in their commitment to ensuring the space remains publicly-accessible green space which is publicly (government) owned. MCPEI conceptual plans meet those requirements, by ensuring 79% of the property is dedicated accessible public use green space and the property would be wholly-owned by the elected PEI Mi’kmaq Governments in Lennox Island and Abegweit.

In February 2009, MCPEI hosted a public consultation which included members of the Friends of the Farm, City of Charlottetown, Province of Prince Edward Island, Government of Canada, University of Prince Edward Island, Holland College and Charlottetown Farmer’s Market. The public consultation was facilitated by O2, a Calgary company with extensive experience in developing properties in ecological and environmentally-sensitive areas throughout Canada (Banff, Alberta and Jasper National Park). The public consultation found much common ground between all parties.

The conceptual drawings presented here were developed using the principles and ideas discussed and presented at that public consultation.
