Misiksk Jadis is a Mi’maq, originally from Scotchfort, PEI. She is a member of the Abegweit Band. Her spiritual name is Wapek Kitpu(White Eagle). She is attending Tatsikiisaapo’p Middle School in Standoff, on the Blood Tribe Reserve in Alberta. She’s a grade 8 student, and has been on the Student Council for three years. For the 2007-2008 she was awarded the Greats Kids Award for Alberta. There were only 16 students who were selected from the province. She is on her second year playing for the Eagles basketball team. Her team had won the banner for the South West Junior High Athletic Association Basketball League and Championship. In the fall of this year, she played Volleyball. She was the captain and co-captain. Her team won the Southern Alberta Girls Volleyball Banner for the League and Championship. She is a very dedicated player. In order to play on the team, you must maintain the three A’s: Attitude, Attendance, Academics. She is a active member of the school’s Running Club. She likes to attend powwows, and she a jingle dress dancer. Her hobbies are beading, reading, and taking care of her pets. She loves traveling. She has been to 10 provinces and 18 states. Her future goal is to attend Dalhousie University in Halifax ,Nova Scotia, and becomescience teacher. Her main interest is astronomy.
