Student of the month Sarah Bernard GED Class speaker Scotchfort
Sarah Bernard was the student speaker at the GED Graduation at the Scotchfort Band Office on April 26th, 2010. It was last April that Sarah found out she was going to have a baby and she started thinking about her life. With a grade eleven education and no job she knew that she was going to have to change things so that she could support herself and her baby. She started the Adult Education Program in October 2009 and she was very eager and determined to get her GED.
She worked hard and spent as much time as she could on her studies before baby was born. She took some time off after her baby Marcus was born in December but was back in class in January. When it came time to write in March, she was nervous but ready. Sarah credits her son's father as an amazing support for her at this time. He helped her get the time she needed to study and write her tests. All of her hard work paid off and in the end she passed all five tests on her first writing!
Now that she has her GED, Sarah would like to go to Holland College to take the Residential Care Worker course. She will wait till her little baby Marcus is a little older and she will apply and fulfill her education goals.
Thinking back on her Adult Education program she reflects that it has been a positive experience for her. She always thought that school was not for her, but now she knows that if she works hard she can achieve anything she puts her mind to. Congratulations Sarah on being the Kwimu's student of the month!
