Dion Bernard is a member of the Abegweit First Nation and lives with his Mom, Barbra Bernard in Scotchfort, PEI. When I started looking into who Dion is for the sports star of the month, I looked at his facebook and in his bio he put, "I am a native warrior, I can dance, and play guitar, I like to try something new, I love the outdoors, nothing beats the great outdoors, kind of shy at times but when I come around you find that I am a pretty great guy." We agree so I went out to talk to his Mom and see what Dion has done in sports.

"When he was little he loved any activity with running, track and field at school and baseball. Now he is really into rugby, he just had his second game." Says Mom Barbara

Dion not only plays rugby he also does a fitness program called P90X which consists of strength and cardiovascular training using techniques such as yoga, plyometrics, and stretching workouts. He did work with Shawn Francis in the gym as well for a while. With all this physical activity Dion always takes the time to start of his day with a jog around Scotchfort.

Not only is this young man physically active he is also one of the young people receiving the Duke of Edinburgh Award on May 20th for putting in one year of community hours. Some of those hours were spent at the boys group, drumming, a weekend of training and bonding with other youth working on getting their award, and traditional dancing. Along with all of this Dion loves to play guitar, write poetry and drawing.

Our new sports star of the month loves his rugby body building, softball, basketball, horseback riding, hunting, running, swimming archery, bow fishing, snowboarding, and hockey and that is why we are so happy to make him our May Sports Star of the Month! You are a true role model to your community on physical activity.
