Mi'kmaq - Prince Edward Island - Canada Consultation Agreement
On August 13, 2012, the Governments of Canada and the Province, and the Mi'kmaq of Prince Edward Island, signed a landmark consultation agreement.
The Agreement establishes a clear and efficient means for Canada and Prince Edward Island to consult the Mi'kmaq on proposed actions or decisions that may adversely impact asserted or established Aboriginal and treaty rights.
The Agreement was signed by Robert Ghiz, Premier of Prince Edward Island and Minister Responsible for Aboriginal Affairs; John Duncan, Federal Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development; Chief Brian Francis, Abegweit First Nation; and Chief Darlene Bernard, Lennox Island First Nation.
