Annual General Assembly

MCPEI’s Annual General Assembly was held on October 25th at the Delta Prince Edward Hotel in Charlottetown with over 300 people in attendance, making it our biggest and best AGA to date.

The entrance way to the ballroom was decorated with large-scale reproductions of the front pages of the new Kwimu Messenger, which gave those in attendance a warm and proud welcome.

Inside the ballroom and throughout the conference centre, staff of MCPEI were on hand to answer questions about the many programs and services offered by the organization. Chief Darlene Bernard and Chief Brian Francis welcomed those in attendance and presided over many touching presentations including a Mi’kmaq traditional celebration of the past, present and future.

Our special guest this year was Aboriginal comedian Howie Miller, who put on a very entertaining show. One of the highlights of the day was a special presentation made to Chief Darlene Bernard on her 2008 induction to the Order of Prince Edward Island. Chief Bernard was the first Aboriginal to be named to the Order, the most prestigious designation for our province.

A lovely meal and many award presentations topped off what many felt was the very best Annual General Assembly to date.
