Chance Banks

Fifteen-year-old Chance Banks of Lennox Island is this edition’s Student of the Month and he deserves every aspect of the title.
Chance just recently graduated from Hernewood Intermediate and will be entering Grade 10 at Westisle High School come September. During his three years at Hernewood, Chance took part in the Senior Band, where he played the drums, in a Drama program and was active in a Drug Awareness Program. Chance and the rest of the band even had the chance to play in Halifax for the Atlantic Canada Band Council.

Student of the month Sarah Bernard GED Class speaker Scotchfort

Sarah Bernard was the student speaker at the GED Graduation at the Scotchfort Band Office on April 26th, 2010. It was last April that Sarah found out she was going to have a baby and she started thinking about her life. With a grade eleven education and no job she knew that she was going to have to change things so that she could support herself and her baby. She started the Adult Education Program in October 2009 and she was very eager and determined to get her GED.

 

Nancy Peters

Nancy Peters is 25 years old and the daughter of Frank Joe and Geraldine Peters and she attended Bluefield High School. Her father is from Lennox Island, but she grew up just outside of Charlottetown in Winsloe North. Nancy’s family moved into Charlottetown when she started UPEI back in 2002 and she is currently in the process of moving up to North Cape with Sean, her fiancé, to start a life up there.

 
 

Paula Marie Clory

Paula Marie Clory is 34 years old. She has two children – Daniel, who is six and Sierra who is three. Paula says that her children are the reason she strives so hard to do well, so that she can give them a good life and teach them the importance of lifelong learning and continuous education. Paula’s husband, Jeff, is a great support for her – he helps with child care, homework, housework, and overall support for Paula’s long hours needed for her work and studies. Paula says that Jeff soothes her soul when she feels guilty about not being a stay-at-home-mom.

 

Danielle Moore

Danielle Moore is twenty two years old and a member of the Lennox Island First Nation. She currently lives just outside of Charlottetown in Marshfield while she attends school at the University of Prince Edward Island.

 

Amanda Malley

Amanda Malley is a fourth year student at the University of Prince Edward where she is completing her studies for a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. Originally from Miramachi, New Brunswick, and a member of the Eel Ground First Nation, Amanda came to PEI in 2006 to peruse her dreams of becoming a doctor of veterinary medicine. It’s a long road to get there, but Amanda is determined to reach her goal.
